Beyond Classroom Menu
On average, children from low-income families can lose nearly three months of grade-level equivalency during the summer months each year. Over time, this "Summer Learning Loss" can add up and set some students years behind in their academic learning.
At DREAM, we are committed to giving every child the opportunity to succeed. Each summer, our students participate in a six-week program to ensure they maintain or increase their reading levels. Depending on each scholar's interest and age, students are enrolled in one of the following programs:
Harlem RBI's innovative REAL Kids Summer and After-School Program (Reading and Enrichment Academy for Learning) uses the power of team activity to help youth develop literacy, academic, social and emotional skills. The REAL Kids Program instills a love of reading in participants that will last a life time. Youth also play in competitive baseball and softball leagues and learn about healthy nutritional habits.
DREAM University is a five-week summer program for DREAM Charter School middle school students providing academic, social, emotional and physical enrichment in a team-based environment. DREAM University takes place on the campus of Manhattan College.
